STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A school bus driver from Rosebank is accused of leaving a five-year-old special education student on a bus for an hour in freezing temperatures.

The driver, Phillip Vallone, 78, apparently dropped off other children at PS 255 in Brooklyn, but somehow missed kindergartner Iman Mirza on his vehicle.

Vallone then went to a diner with bus matron Madelyne Shedd, 66, of Brooklyn, according to several published reports.

When he discovered the child, he notified the school of his blunder.

"We immediately suspended the driver and matron and are investigating the incident," said Education Department spokeswoman Margie Feinberg.

The girl's father, Junaid Mirza, 40, said his daughter came down with a fever after the incident.

"That was enough to give me a heart attack," he told the Daily News.

Vallone and Ms. Shedd were arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, said cops.
