What would it take to make it easier for people to get around your community?

• Are the sidewalks walkable?
• Is there enough time to get across the street?
• Are the crosswalks marked properly?

New York ranks 3rd in the nation for pedestrian fatalities for people age 65+. If crossing streets and intersections in your community causes you unease or keeps you or a family member from going out, then AARP needs your input!

Join AARP New York and Create The Good any time April 19th – 23rd as we survey hundreds of streets and intersections in communities across the state and evaluate them for walker safety. This statewide initiative is called Complete Streets Week: Making New York Walkable for All Generations.

We will use the results of these surveys to make improvements at the local level and demonstrate the need for state legislation that incorporates the needs of all people, including pedestrians, into road design.

It's easy! Here are two ways you can get involved:

1. Find a Complete Streets activity in your community at createthegood.org.
2. Organize a Complete Streets activity in your own community: Click here to register as a Complete Streets organizer

You will be contacted by AARP staff and sent an information packet.

To learn more about how to conduct a survey and organize a Complete Streets activity, view this brief video.
