Different Roads to Learning (http://www.difflearn.com/) was started by a mother of an autistic child who wanted to find specialized educational materials to work with her daughter at home but didn't know where to get them. So she ended up starting her own business featuring products that are crucial to behavioral programs designed to help children on the spectrum acquire concrete academic, social and life skills. Her and her business and family situation has been profiled by the NY Daily News and by Inc. magazine. (http://www.inc.com/magazine/20050401/26-azuma.html)
The focus is on ABA training related materials. DRL Books (http://www.drlbooks.com/default.htm) is a spin-off company which publishes specialized books dealing with interventions for children with autism. A new company was formed a year ago to provide materials for adults with memory issues and Alzheimer's disease at www.mindandmemorystore.com.
