Bombard Paterson to Sign the Poll Site Access Bill

Don't Let the Governor Veto it Again!

Last year on September 16th, Governor Paterson vetoed the Poll Site Access Bill, which was passed by both the Assembly and the Senate for the first time. This year the Assembly and Senate passed an identical bill (A.10946 / S.7860), and it was sent to the Governor’s desk for signature. He now has until September 17th to sign it or veto it.

The bill would require all poll sites to comply with the accessibility guidelines of the ADA. It would also eliminate the practice of granting waivers for inaccessible sites. Waivers have made it possible for counties to avoid having to make inaccessible sites accessible.

Governor Paterson vetoed the bill last year because of opposition from the Mayor of NYC. The NYC Mayor’s office is still expressing strong opposition despite having their arguments repeatedly refuted by advocates in the time elapsed since last year’s veto. The Governor's office needs to hear from us NOW! Click the following link to take action!
