Due to the arrival of Hurricane Irene, no Saturday groups will be held at NAMI-NYC Metro.
In addition, we are advising volunteers and those who wish to use the library on Monday to call our office at 212-684-3365 to be sure that we are open.
Finally, below is a request for professional volunteers from the NYC DOHMH.

New York City would like your help in providing mental health support at New York City Evacuation shelters. We are asking for mental health professionals from all locations in the City to assist the City's response effort by volunteering to provide disaster mental health services in the evacuation centers and shelters being opened to respond to this crisis. We anticipate there may be individuals with varying levels of stress as well as varying levels of capacity to manage that stress and could use the assistance of a clinician.
We are looking for professionals who meet the following criteria:
1) NY State License or Certificate as a SW, Counselor, Therapist or Qualified Psychiatrist (NYSMHL)
2) Master's degree and at least two years of immediate full-time experience providing MH Services or one year of experience providing services to those experiencing traumas or disasters
Volunteers will be needed this weekend on 12-hour shifts, starting this Saturday, August 27 at 9:00AM and continuing through 9:00PM Monday, August 29.
If you are interested, please reply by email with the following information:
1) Hours available to be deployed this weekend (starting early Saturday) to a shelter for a 12-hour shift
2) Borough and neighborhood that would be most convenient for you
3) The MH provider for whom you work
Thank you for your willingness to assist in this potential emergency.
