Action Alert - Make calls on Monday 11/17!
from Nadina LaSpina, NYC Adapt
GOVERNOR PATERSON, PLEASE, NO MORE CUTS TO HOME CARE!
-Let us show you a better way to save money!
-Cutting home care will end up costing the state more money, as more seniors and people with disabilities will be forced into institutions.
- he right way to achieve savings in long term care is to provide services in the most integrated setting.
Our homes, not nursing homes!
And more money can be saved by providing more cost-effective types of home care whenever possible.
Expanding the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) could save the state a lot money. In New York City many of us have used CDPAP for years. But CDPAP currently constitutes less than 3% of all home care provided in NY State. Many people who now receive services from medical-model agencies or private duty nursing could switch to CDPAP, and studies show that consumer directed services both increase satisfaction & decrease costs. Another way to save money would be to introduce Cash and Counseling. Other states are developing cash and counseling programs. Why not New York?
On Monday, 11/17, the day before the Emergency Legislative Session in Albany
-Call the Governor's office at 518-474-8390 or 212-681-4580.
Call your State Senator & Assembly Member (NYC phone # for Albany offices: Assembly 212-312-1420 / Senate 212-312-1550) (NYC, if you don’t know who you Senator/Assembly Member are call 311).
- Have your attendants call their State Senator & Assembly Member. as well.
Just say:
NO MORE CUTS TO HOME CARE! Listen to disability rights advocates! There's a better way to save money!
