NYAIL Housing Education Initiative Project Coordinator

The New York Association on Independent Living (NYAIL) is seeking a Project Coordinator for a new initiative to increase affordable, accessible, and integrated housing opportunities for seniors and people with disabilities in New York State. NYAIL is a statewide nonprofit membership organization that works to enhance the quality of life and safeguard the rights of people with disabilities. NYAIL members are Independent Living Centers (ILCs), consumer-controlled, cross-disability providers of services and supports to people with disabilities using a peer based model.

Responsibilities
The Housing Education Initiative Project Coordinator will work under the direction of the NYAIL executive director. Responsibilities include:
• Implement housing education program pursuant to NYAIL contract with the NYS Department of Health
• Develop housing education initiative training materials, and provide training and technical assistance on housing related issues, policies, practices and laws impacting seniors and people with disabilities
• Facilitate relationships among ILC staff, service providers, seniors and people with disabilities and their family members, and relevant community stakeholders in the areas of housing, disabilities, aging, long term care, and local and state government
• Manage statewide project, including data collection and report preparation
• Recruit, hire, and supervise project staff
• Plan and coordinate regional training events
• This is an Albany-based position. Statewide travel is required.

Qualifications
• Knowledge of state and local housing policies, practices, laws and issues impacting seniors and people with disabilities
• Significant professional experience in housing, long term care, disability rights, and/or Independent Living

• Project management experience, including staff supervision and training
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, computer, written communication and public speaking skills
• Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
• An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the position may be substituted
