Action Alert: Deaf Advocates Challenge Audism of AG Bell Association

Take Action at: http://capwiz.com/rochestercdr/utr/1/DYHQKFBXLH/EYBVKFGZDS/3143734541

On the morning of April 2, Deaf advocates from Audism Free America met
with representatives of the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf
and Hard of Hearing.

Audism Free America demanded three actions:

1. That AG Bell Association retract the letter that was sent in January of
2008 to Pepsi, which referred to users of American Sign Language as
"isolated from mainstream society," and promotes a condescending and
distasteful view of Deaf people who use American Sign Language.

2. That AG Bell Association work in partnership with Audism Free America to
promote an equal and diverse view of all people that are deaf and hard of
hearing, by sharing AFA's request with the Board of Directors.

3. That AG Bell Association make a pubic apology regarding the hurtful
attitude and comments conveyed against users of ASL thus far.

AG Bell representatives refused to act on any of these demands. Deaf
advocates from around the nation will be rallying outside AG Bell's
headquarters on April 3, 2009.

Take action now to send a letter to the AG Bell Association in support of
Audism Free America's demands!
