Dear Advocates,

Next week the NY Senate Elections Committee is holding hearings in Albany and Syracuse on “Casting a Ballot/Poll Sites.” Two issues we’ve been fighting hard for, polling site accessibility and split shifts, are on the agenda.

Now there is an opportunity to submit comment on these bills via a new Senate website: http://www.nysenate.gov/legislation

Bill S1058: Accessible Polling Places for Individuals with Disablities - Requires each polling place to be accessible to physically disabled voters and provides guidelines in accordance with the accessibility requirements mandated pursuant to the federal Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

Bill S1836: Half-Day Shifts for Election Inspectors - Authorizes the county Boards of Elections to employ election inspectors to work half-day shifts with adjusted compensation.

Our postings/comments in support of these bills will send a strong message to the Senate Elections Committee. They’ll know we are a strong constituency paying attention and expecting action!

Warm regards,

Rima
