Tell your NYS Assembly Member to vote "YEA" on K743, a resolution endorsing and urging the US Congress to pass H.R. 1670, the Community Choice Act of 2009.
NYS Assembly Member Koon sponsored resolution K743 to show Congress that the New York State Assembly supports the federal legislation, Community Choice Act, which gives people real choices in long term care. This resolution has already passed through committee and is expected to be on the floor for a vote on Monday, June 22, the tenth anniversary of the landmark Olmstead decision in the U.S. Supreme Court.
"The Community Choice Act gives people real choice in long term care options by reforming Title XIX of the Social Security Act (Medicaid) and ending the institutional bias. The Community Choice Act allows individuals eligible for services in a Nursing Facility or institution for people with intellectual or psychiatric disabilities the opportunity to choose instead a new alternative, 'Community-based Attendant Services and Supports'" (The Coalition for Community Integration).
