Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library
An architecturally barrier-free lending library, the Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library set a new standard of library service for persons with disabilities when it opened in 1991. This full-service library includes comfortable reading rooms, large circulating collections of special format materials, audio playback equipment for listening to recorded books and magazines, and a variety of other electronic reading aids.
We operate a books-by-mail program that delivers thousands of recorded and braille titles postage-free. Residents of all ages of New York City and Long Island who have difficulty reading standard printed materials because of blindness, visual impairment, a physical disability that limits their ability to hold a book or turn pages, or a reading disability resulting from organic dysfunction are eligible for these services.
You may call the library at (212) 206-5400. You can leave a message 24 hours a day at (212) 206-5425 or email us at ahlbph@nypl.org.
