South Brooklyn Legal Services provides legal advocacy, free legal help and information in civil cases to low-income people in Sourthern and Western Brooklyn, New York. This program can accept individuals with incomes up to 187.5% of the poverty level if the person has special circumstances such as high medical bills, child care expenses, or other debts. LSNY-Bronx, with three Bronx offices, provided legal services to the poor in diverse areas of civil practice. We provide brief advice, brief services, clinics, phone hotlines and full representation in court and at hearings. We provide legal services in the areas of disability, SSD/SSI, housing, public assistance, food stamps, Medicaid, Medicare, education, family law, health, consumer, employment/unemployment, bankruptcy, student loans and other civil litigation. Since its inception in 1990, the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) has provided free legal assistance to New York's most at-risk, low income populations, including the elderly, immigrants, victims of domestic violence, children with special needs, people with HIV/AIDS, Holocaust survivors and others in need of legal help. NYLAG focuses on direct legal services, advocacy through impact litigation, consultation for social service providers and their clients, community legal education, and volunteer programs for attorneys, law graduates and students.
