This program can accept individuals with incomes up to 187.5% of the poverty level if the person has special circumstances such as high medical bills, child care expenses, or other debts. Since its inception in 1990, the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) has provided free legal assistance to New York's most at-risk, low income populations, including the elderly, immigrants, victims of domestic violence, children with special needs, people with HIV/AIDS, Holocaust survivors and others in need of legal help. NYLAG focuses on direct legal services, advocacy through impact litigation, consultation for social service providers and their clients, community legal education, and volunteer programs for attorneys, law graduates and students. |
